What does an AI marketing consultant do?
An AI marketing consultant advises on how AI could change a business’s marketing, including its organisation, processes, technology and economics. The assignment may concern a particular campaign or a wider transformation.
The scope varies between suppliers. Strategic advice, implementation support and software engineering are different capabilities, even when all appear under the AI consultancy label. A consultancy may help define the problem and compare options without supplying the people or systems needed to operate the eventual solution.
We offer diagnosis, campaign delivery and staged transformation through our consultancy. These describe our services rather than an industry standard. Our services
When does an AI marketing agency fit the requirement?
An agency fits assignments requiring external creative, production, media or delivery capacity, depending on its specialisms. AI may change how that work is done without changing the need for those capabilities.
A settled campaign brief and a need for recurring production are different assignments from deciding how the marketing function will operate. Some agencies provide both strategy and delivery; some consultancies also produce campaigns. The supplier’s actual team and scope are more informative than its label.
The use of AI alone establishes neither the quality of the work nor the amount of human judgement behind it. Those depend on how the supplier develops, reviews and delivers the assignment.
When does in-house AI capability make sense?
In-house capability can suit recurring work that relies on company knowledge, close collaboration or continuing control. Its economics depend on the volume and complexity of that work and the skills already available.
Internal delivery carries costs beyond software: recruitment, training, management, maintenance and specialist support. External delivery carries fees and a different set of coordination demands. Neither structure is inherently cheaper.
Building a team also differs from building a proprietary tool. A team can use established platforms while retaining its own knowledge and decisions. Software ownership adds development, security and support responsibilities.
Can consultancy, an agency and an internal team work together?
Yes. They can divide responsibility for diagnosis, specialist delivery and continuing operation within the same programme.
A mixed model may retain commercial decisions internally while drawing on outside expertise or capacity. Its usefulness depends on clear handovers, access to relevant information and agreement about who accepts the work. Overlapping suppliers can otherwise create repeated effort or gaps in responsibility.
There is no universally correct combination. The fit changes with the business’s objectives, available people, risk and expected workload.
